Action movies released the first week in June: Killers & Splice

Action movies dominate this summer's blockbuster line-up and the first week of June is no exception. Venturous Bikers Team is planning to watch these movies as the climate is not good for biking these days. So we are taking break this month and will have fun with these movies.

Action movies hitting theatres this week (released Friday June 4th) are Killers (PG-13, 1 hour, 40 min) starring Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl and Splice (R, 1 hour, 40 min) starring Adrian Brody and Sarah Polley.

In Killers, Jen (Katherine Heigl) meets Spencer (Ashton Kutcher), the man of her dreams, only to find out he works for a secret government agency that permits him to kill bad guys.

Predictable but comical action-driven scenes follow of Jen adjusting to her new way of life as a killer. The movie crosses many genres; romance, comedy, and action, having a little something for every viewer but also seeming a little unfocused in tone and intention. Lionsgate did not screen Killers in advance, nearly always a sign the studio thinks the reviews will not be entirely positive.

Near Saint Paul, Killers can be seen at the AMC 14 in Roseville and at St. Anthony Main Theatre in Minneapolis.

In Splice, two young geneticists splice human DNA with that of various animals to develop a new species and end up gaining instant fame. Their project and aspirations evolve and they begin to ignore the law. In doing so, they create a beautiful mutant named "Dren," who also happens to be a deadly human-chimera.

Near Saint Paul, Splice can be seen at Marcus Cinema Oakdale North, Carmike Oakdale 20, and AMC Block E 15 in Minneapolis.
